Q&A:

Q) What is needed for a user who says, “I need Adobe” or “I need an Adobe license”.

A) There are various types/versions of Adobe. Need to ask the requestor and figure out what version of Adobe they actually need. Sometimes, users don’t know what version of Adobe they need. They may even already have “Adobe” but don’t know exactly which version. See below.

Adobe versions:

Desktop version of Adobe Acrobat. Some CHS users have old desktop versions of Adobe. Expiration and renewal notifications are sent directly to individual users. Desktop versions of Adobe Acrobat were purchased years ago. Adobe is moving away from desktop software and going “all cloud”. Desktop version of Adobe is no longer supported by CHS IT for the reasons below.

Doesn’t align with the future direction of Adobe. Will become end-of-life at some point.

Too difficult and time consuming when a user gets a new laptop or leaves CHS. Software, files, and product keys must me migrated.

Adobe product keys are missing and become lost when a CHS user exits. The online version of Adobe does not require product keys.

Online version of Adobe Acrobat (called “Adobe Acrobat Pro DC” – “DC” stands for “document cloud”).

Adobe Creative Cloud. Only available online, although some of the applications in the suite still require a desktop download and installation.

Q) How much does Adobe cost?

A) Again, need to ask and figure out what version of Adobe they need.

Adobe costs:

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. $177.36 per user per year. Must purchase for the full year. Cannot purchase on a monthly basis.

Adobe Creative Cloud. $369.48 per user per year. Must purchase for the full year. Cannot purchase on a monthly basis.

Annual contract anniversary date is July 12th.

Purchases made after the anniversary date are prorated and then automatically renewed at the full price next July 12th.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and Adobe Creative Cloud license purchases are handled by Allen Kim and Mark Wilson, as Adobe Administrators.

Annual renewal in July is handled by Allen Kim and Finance.

Individual users are not allowed to purchase Adobe licenses themselves as was done in previous years.

Q) Where is the list of current Adobe users?

A) Allen Kim and Mark Wilson can access the list of Adobe users by license type/version, as Adobe Administrators. Additionally, lists of Adobe users by license type/version is kept here: Adobe Pro DC & Creative Cloud
